Meet Our Operations Manager, Kellie Shurtz

What is it you do at ORO?
I oversee all blog content as well as manage our Concierge Service. With my event planning background and event knowledge, I’m able to advise other planners as needed and give personable and professional feedback on their event specific questions. For any internal events, I’m also the go-to girl!

Tell us more about your background:
I’m originally from northern Illinois, but have lived in Denver, CO for over 20yrs. I started my career in corporate planning, working with large tech and pharmaceutical companies throughout the United States and eventually transitioned into venue planning. I then combined all that expertise and joined a DMC (Destination Management Company) in Downtown Denver, where I met Katherine Frost! This position led me to not only produce some of the largest events of my career… but to one of the most important business (and personal) relationships in my life. I later joined Katherine’s wedding and event planning company, A Frosted Affair, managing numerous corporate, non-profit and luxury weddings across Colorado, California, and Texas!

You have attended numerous memorable parties and events over the years; what would you say is your most favorite event ever attended? Did it have a specific theme?
My favorite event has to be one of the last events I produced in my DMC role; an 8,500-person indoor/outdoor event for the Travel industry. The standout moments were created by the various local and national entertainment acts throughout the event, from Las Vegas sky drummers perched 30-40ft in the air as guests passed by underneath to a Jazz singer positioned so perfectly in the middle of a grand staircase surrounded by numerous Edison bulb lamps at varying heights. The guest experience was the central focus of this event and at every turn, all their senses were ignited which made for an extremely memorable evening for all. This type of guest experience, and the feeling created, is something I look for in every event I attend or produce, public or private! It makes you feel like you’ve been a part of something very special.

Most favorite place you’ve travelled:
This is a hard call, given my love for travel, but if I had to pick … Vietnam! The cuisine was amazing and being a part of something so culturally different was overwhelmingly exciting and magical every day.
